Course Introduction

The Restrictive Practice and Behaviour Support Training Course provides essential knowledge for aged care, disability, and support workers who assist individuals experiencing behaviours of concern. This course is particularly important for NDIS providers supporting clients with complex needs, helping teams understand their responsibilities when implementing behaviour support strategies and restrictive practices in line with regulatory requirements.

Participants will learn about the different types of restrictive practices, their potential impacts, and practices that are prohibited under current regulations. The training explains when restrictive practices may be considered and how they must be applied safely, ethically, and in accordance with approved behaviour support plans.

The course also focuses on understanding behaviours of concern, identifying behaviour triggers, and recognising the difference between meltdowns and tantrums. Participants will learn practical strategies to support individuals experiencing behavioural distress, including positive behaviour interventions, behaviour support planning, and the use of tools such as the ABC (Antecedent, Behaviour, Consequence) chart.

By completing this course, participants will gain the knowledge and confidence to support individuals with complex behavioural needs while ensuring safe, person-centred care that aligns with NDIS and disability sector compliance requirements.
