Course Introduction
Epilepsy & Seizure Training covers an introduction to the nervous system and ensures an understanding of epilepsy and its different types. The training covers differentiating between a seizure and epilepsy, the risks associated and how support workers/carers can support and care for clients with this condition. The course will also cover monitoring and equipment used and, importantly, emergency management, including the administration of midazolam. The approach ensures that staff can document and report and will also be required to demonstrate the skill during a practical.

- Explain how the nervous system works, including key organs.
- Describe what epilepsy is.
- Explain the differences between a seizure and epilepsy.
- Identify different types of seizures and epilepsy.
- Identify causes and triggers of epilepsy and seizure management.
- Describe treatment options, including midazolam treatment.
- Administer basic first aid and midazolam for a seizure.
- Record findings, incidences appropriately.
- Know your scope of practice as a Home Support Worker.
Epilepsy Training Course Certification
A certificate of achievement is issued on completion of the course.
