Course Introduction
The Caring for Mental Health Training Course is a vital program for aged care, disability, and home care providers who support individuals living with mental health conditions. This course equips care workers with the knowledge and practical strategies needed to recognise, understand, and respond to mental health challenges in a safe, compassionate, and supportive way.
Participants will build a strong foundation in understanding mental health and common mental illnesses, including recognising key signs, symptoms, and available treatments. The training also explores suicidal thoughts and behaviours, helping care professionals identify warning signs and respond appropriately to support individuals at risk.
A key component of this course is Trauma-Informed Care, which helps providers understand how past trauma can impact behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and engagement with care services. Participants will learn how to create safe, respectful environments that promote trust and recovery.
The course also provides practical skills in supporting people living with mental illness, including effective de-escalation techniques to manage distressing or challenging situations safely.
By completing this course, care professionals will gain the confidence to deliver person-centred, trauma-informed mental health support, improving outcomes and wellbeing for the people they care for.
