Food hygiene and safety training for support workers in the community setting is essential to ensure that they handle and prepare food safely, especially since they often work with vulnerable populations who may be at higher risk of foodborne illnesses, intolerances and allergies.

Food Hygiene & Safety Training – Key Competences Covered

  • Understanding the criteria and expectations of the industry (NDIS, Aged Care, Australian food standards).
  • Understanding the importance of allergies, intolerances, religious/cultural/spiritual considerations, and food safety and handling.
  • Understanding the importance of safe food handling, including temperatures, preparation, and cross-contamination.
  • Developing skills to assist in meal planning and reviewing suitable recipes and factor in standards, expectations, needs and client beliefs.
  • Understanding the importance of infection control practices concerning food safety.

A certificate of achievement is issued on completion of the course.
