Trainer Spotlight: A New Addition to our Clinical Training Team!

Feb 5, 2025 | KC News

We kicked off the 2025 New Year with loads of updates, including adding a new face to our clinical training team, Beth!

Beth joins our team of highly trained and experienced clinical training educators, each of whom has worked as a member of community and home care clinical services for many years. Like our other trainers, Beth has an extensive background in nursing, bringing a real-world perspective to our comprehensive range of courses.

Beth is currently a part-time Skills Centre Australia clinical training team member while also working as a Client Services Manager for in-home and community care provider KompleteCare.

Her career history has seen her in various roles, with over a decade in retail and customer service, while also pursuing her passion for care in her studies to become a Registered Nurse. After completing her studies, she provided community nursing care for several years before becoming a Client Services Manager.

From a young age, Beth’s teachers, family, and friends told her she would become a teacher or a nurse. As she got older, she felt that teaching children wasn’t the right fit for her, but nursing felt like a natural path. Today, she does both, providing nursing care in her role as a Client Services Manager and teaching adults at Skills Centre Australia.

For Beth, a significant influence in her decision to pursue a career in nursing was a close family member who was unwell while she was growing up.

Her family was actively involved in caring for them at home, and that experience sparked a passion for helping others. It became clear to her that nursing was the obvious choice.

Her career as a Registered Nurse saw her gaining experience in various hospitals and departments. Her employment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital saw her providing care in the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department before transitioning to the Haematology and Oncology Department. She then moved interstate and worked as an Agency Nurse before securing a role at the Alfred Memorial Hospital in Melbourne in the Spinal Injury Ward.

Upon her return to Adelaide, she joined KompleteCare as a Client Services Manager, progressing to become 2IC of her team. She took on the responsibility of training new staff and students and preparing them for onboarding.

When Beth joined Skills Centre Australia, the two combined, using her nursing background and clinical expertise to provide quality, professional clinical training.

Initially, she joined our team temporarily, assisting with covering the leave of our other trainers and staff. As Skills Centre Australia grew, so did the need for another clinical training educator, and Beth was our first choice.

The first training course she delivered was Multiple Sclerosis Care. Since then, she has expanded her scope to train in nearly every area, excluding our accredited courses (which are delivered by our other clinical trainers, Hannah and Georgie). When asked about her favourite training to deliver, she could not pinpoint just one but listed Medication and Administration, Bowel and Stoma Care, Introduction to Home Support Work, Oxygen Therapy, and Diabetes Training as her top picks.

Outside of work, Beth has a strong passion for netball.

After 20 years on the court, she recently stepped into coaching an under-11s team twice weekly. She finds coaching incredibly rewarding and notes that while it involves a lot of planning to coordinate training sessions, she enjoys keeping it fun. She has seen incredible fulfilment in watching her team’s growth. When needing relaxation, Beth enjoys the simple pleasures of tending to her veggie garden and fruit trees, painting, drawing, and reading.

Beth’s main goal for this year is to fulfil her passion for training and focus on it entirely by transitioning into a full-time clinical training role at Skills Centre Australia.

Using her skills and experience has reconnected her with her nursing roots, and she finds teaching and helping others incredibly rewarding.

What she finds unique about Skills Centre Australia is that our courses aren’t just about ticking a box—they are about equipping our Support Workers with the knowledge and skills to provide the best possible care for clients. The philosophy here is always centred on improving client care and making the work meaningful. I look forward to being part of that journey.
